Welcome back to Podcasting 2.0. In Practice. This series wasn't meant to end here. The final episode was supposed to be the previous one, the one called Is That it?
But then lots of elements of this show did not go to plan, so I wasn't too surprised when I realised I needed to add my own final episode, which also serves as a thank you and a bit of future homework.
I planned this course just like I would plan a book in my job as a freelance editor and project manager of how-to books, even down to writing a flat plan – in book terms, this is a page by page breakdown of the entire book,
in podcast terms, I did the same thing on an episode by episode basis. But unlike with a book, I found I had to become more flexible as the project progressed.
For example, when apps change their wording or iconography, I've had to get either future or the newly invented post-production Claire in to correct what was originally said.
At the time of recording, I also dropped some of the modules I had planned to include, notably a really super episode recorded with Jordan Blair on the person feature.
When I realized that my hosting company doesn't support this tag and that not many apps do either, I decided to put that episode to the side and hopefully in the future when more hosts and apps start supporting it, I can bring it in to a future series of Podcasting 2.0 in Practice, I've also added modules, for example Power to the People, which I decided was a necessary addition once I realised that the podroll and person tags are not as widely supported as I had thought they were when I started this project.
I have recently been privy to a future update to one of the modern podcast apps we talk about on this course, only to be confronted by a number of icons that are very lovely but are not how I describe them on the audio, nor show them in the chapter art in the relevant episodes of this podcast. Hey ho.
This course does, however, remain true to its original aim and serves, I believe, as a solid introduction to some really useful Podcasting 2.0 features, with expert guidance as to what the feature is and why it's good, and practical explanations of how to use it. And as I've caveated throughout is that a word caveated?
Throughout the whole show, things may change, but using the basics I've laid down here, listeners should be able to navigate the learnings and interpret the instructions for themselves. So for the future homework, I'd love for you to tell me what you want to hear or what you would like to communicate.
For example if you are a podcast app or hosting company and you've made some changes to the way things look or work, or you started supporting a 2.0 feature you hadn't supported previously, drop me a line and perhaps I can have you on to tell me all about your news. Or as a podcast consumer, you've heard of a 2.0 feature and want to learn more about it. Again, drop me a line and I'll do some investigating.
Perhaps you are a big fan of a particular 2.0 feature that I haven't covered in this course and want to pop by to fill me in. Again, drop me a line.
You can do this through your modern podcast app or email Claire C L A I R E at creativityfound.co.uk. And finally returning to the book theme, it's time for my author acknowledgements, which is where book authors get to say thank you to anyone that has contributed to the production of the book.
I would of course like to thank all of my expert guests who are Sam Sethi, Sarah Ferris, David and Leila Medus, Dave Jackson, James Cridland, Daniel J. Lewis, Danny Brown, Ellie Rubinstein, Jordan Blair and Oscar Merry.
Thanks also to Nick Malster and Kyrin Down, who both gave a bit of extra guidance where I needed it. Sam gets another mention since as well as being an expert guest, he has been of great support in the planning and promotion of this show.
Then there's all the support that has been shown in the modern podcast apps through boosts, super comments, streams and reviews. For these, I'd like to thank David John Clark, Martin Lindeskog, Deborah Anderson, Guy Martin, Seth Goldstein, Si Jobling, and Brian Entzminger.
Thank you to Miss Ileane Smith for visiting my Buy Me a Coffee page at buymeacoffee.com/creativityfound and supporting the show with a few dollars.
Much appreciated. And thanks to Matt Medeiros, Danny Brown and Mark Asquith and Martin Quebell for talking about this show on the World Wide Web and inviting me to be a guest on your podcasts and promote the show that way.
If you'd like to help me promote the show, please feel free to tell your friends and share details on your social media feeds and with your mailing lists if relevant, you can also follow podcasting2.0inpractice on Instagram.
As I say in the show's outro, which I'm sure you've all listened to, please check out creativityfound.co.uk/podcasting for more info on my guests and how to find them, as well as links to podcast relevant apps and services, some of which are affiliate linked to me. And that's all for now. Now that you have completed the course, I'll be sending you your imaginary completion certificate over soon.
And make sure you are subscribed to the show or a fan, depending on your listening app, so you'll know when future episodes get released. Thanks so much and see you soon. Thanks so much for listening.
